Scott Pilgrim Makes a Surprising Return to the Spotlight

Scott Pilgrim EX is an exciting new co-op brawler game set in the demon-infested streets of Toronto. The game is currently being developed by Tribute Games, a studio established by former developers of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. The game’s narrative has been co-authored by Scott Pilgrim’s creator, Bryan Lee O’Malley, alongside several veterans from the franchise who are contributing their expertise to this new project.

The announcement of Scott Pilgrim EX occurred during the Summer Game Fest 2025, where a reveal trailer showcased an action-packed experience reminiscent of the previous games. The Scott Pilgrim franchise originally began in 2004 with a series of six graphic novels created by O’Malley. It follows the story of Scott Pilgrim, a laid-back 23-year-old bassist who must defeat his love interest Ramona Flowers’ seven evil exes to win her heart. The franchise expanded into a 2010 film adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which later inspired a video game.

While neither adaptation was a commercial blockbuster, both garnered strong critical acclaim and developed dedicated fan bases. The new game promises a nostalgic return, featuring seven playable characters, including five former rivals. Scott Pilgrim EX takes place after the events of Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off anime, a point confirmed by showrunner BenDavid Grabinski, who also serves as a consultant for the game. Game director Jonathan Lavigne expressed excitement about returning to the franchise: “Coming back to this world feels like the most natural thing ever.”

Players can look forward to enjoying the game solo or in co-op mode with up to four players, with split-screen multiplayer included. Scott Pilgrim EX is targeting a 2026 release on platforms including PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, though an exact launch date has yet to be announced.
