The Witcher 4 Developers Share Key Inspirations Behind the Upcoming Game

CD Projekt Red has drawn significant inspiration from Baldur’s Gate 3 as they develop The Witcher 4. The game will feature Ciri as the main protagonist and will be set in the region of Kovir. Aiming for a more interactive experience, The Witcher 4 promises to offer a more reactive world filled with lively NPCs, enhancing the player’s engagement.

CEO Michał Nowakowski recently highlighted Baldur’s Gate 3 as a key influence on The Witcher 4, which is highly anticipated by fans, although an official release date has yet to be announced. The Witcher series, particularly The Witcher 3, has achieved remarkable success, selling over 60 million units since its 2015 launch. Fans have eagerly awaited news on the upcoming title, and CD Projekt Red is slowly revealing more information.

Unlike the earlier games which centered on Geralt, The Witcher 4 will shift its focus to Ciri and explore the diverse landscapes of Kovir. While comparisons to other successful titles, like Red Dead Redemption 2, suggest high expectations for its horse mechanics, The Witcher 4 is carving its own path. In an interview with PC Gamer, Nowakowski mentioned that, even though The Witcher 4 may differ significantly from Baldur’s Gate 3, the interaction of characters with the environment is a focal point of their development.

However, he reassured fans that the essence of the open-world experience established in previous games will remain intact. The recent tech demo has provided a sneak peek into what fans can expect from The Witcher 4. Although it was not actual gameplay footage, it showcased Kovir’s northern region with Ciri riding her horse Kelpie and interacting with characters in a bustling city.

The demo hinted at the return of iconic monsters and the promise of a dynamic world, leaving fans excited for more details as they await the official announcements from CD Projekt Red.
