Epic Games is set to introduce Fortnite Wallet Cards, enabling players to purchase in-game content with cash rather than relying solely on credit cards. These cards will be available in denominations ranging from $15 to $150 and will be connected to players’ Epic accounts for secure transactions. Importantly, they are not limited to Fortnite purchases; they can also be utilized for any content available in the Epic Games Store.
The upcoming Wallet Cards will streamline the purchasing process for players who want to acquire additional content in Fortnite. While the game is free-to-play, Epic Games has generated substantial revenue through cosmetic sales and in-game currency, amassing billions. Although some cosmetic items have sparked controversy and debates about competitive advantages, the game does not feature any pay-to-win mechanisms.
Players typically use V-Bucks to buy skins, accessories, and emotes, but additional V-Bucks must be purchased with real money or through V-Bucks cards at stores or online. Currently, credit cards are the only method for purchasing real-money items, making it difficult for some players to acquire certain Fortnite offers. Wallet Cards aim to change this by allowing fans to use physical cash for in-game items.
However, players must exercise caution when selecting these cards, as they resemble V-Bucks cards visually. Unlike V-Bucks cards, Wallet Cards fund players’ Epic Games accounts instead of providing V-Bucks directly. While the new purchasing option is appealing, there might be limitations, such as the minimum value being higher than some item costs.
Nevertheless, remaining funds will stay secure in the Epic Games account. The Wallet Cards will not only benefit Fortnite players but may also extend to other games like Fall Guys and Rocket League. Although there is no confirmed launch date yet, reports suggest Wallet Cards could be available later this year.
Meanwhile, players can continue enjoying Fortnite’s diverse offerings, from thrilling battle royales to a myriad of creator-made games across various genres, all while connecting with friends for free.
