As part of its July update, Xbox Game Pass is introducing a highly acclaimed indie title in the survival crafting genre: Abiotic Factor. Initially released in early access on Steam by developer Deep Field, the game boasts an impressive 95.5% satisfaction rating from over 24,000 reviewers, having earned Steam’s “Overwhelmingly Positive” badge. 2025 has proven to be a remarkable year for co-op games, with numerous indie titles captivating large audiences.
Starting with R.E.P.O., a unique take on co-op horror, followed by the chart-topping PEAK with its amusing physics-based gameplay, Abiotic Factor stands ready to elevate the genre further. From July 22 onwards, Xbox Game Pass PC and Ultimate subscribers can experience the full 1.0 version of Abiotic Factor. In this co-op survival crafting game, up to six players are plunged into a daunting abandoned facility where they face interdimensional threats.
While the game offers a well-crafted narrative, players have the freedom to explore at their own pace and progress through the campaign in their preferred manner. Exploration and crafting are fundamental to the gameplay, with discovering new areas unlocking advanced crafting options, and better gear facilitating deeper exploration. Abiotic Factor is notable for its blend of humor, horror, and challenge.
Its narrative is rich with clever jokes, while the eerie settings encourage team play. The game also features RPG mechanics like traits and skills that influence gameplay. With elements typical of sandbox games, players can customize their experience and shape the campaign to suit their preferences.
Following its Xbox Game Pass debut, Abiotic Factor will also be available on PlayStation Plus and receive its official launch on Steam. Crucially for Xbox Series X/S players, the game supports crossplay, allowing friends on PlayStation 5 and PC to join in on the adventure together.
