Developed by Leenzee and 505 Games, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a soulful action RPG influenced by Chinese mythology, launched on July 24. Initially, the game attracted a player count of 100,000 on Steam, but many players encountered severe PC performance issues that negatively affected their experience.
Following its release, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers suffered from review bombing, achieving an “Overwhelmingly Negative” rating on Steam. Critics pointed out the game’s performance problems, attributing these shortcomings to Unreal Engine 5’s notorious optimization difficulties. Despite the underlying quality of the game, players with low to mid-range PCs found it nearly unplayable. In response to this backlash, Leenzee and 505 Games have pledged to release a performance patch quickly.

The mod reportedly delivers fixes such as smoother gameplay, reduced stuttering, and enhanced picture clarity. Users have shared varied experiences of performance boosts, with some reporting gains of up to 30 FPS.
Installation entails downloading the mod file and placing it in the specified directory. Although users on Game Pass will need to locate a different folder than those on Steam, the installation process remains straightforward. Other performance-enhancing mods have emerged but have not matched the effectiveness of Ultimate Engine Tweaks. P40L0’s early success is partly due to the mod’s coding, which allows it to work with any Unreal Engine 5 game, hinting that more specialized mods could follow.
