The official Twitter account for Shift Up’s critically acclaimed 2024 video game, Stellar Blade, has recently fallen victim to hackers. These malicious actors took control of the account to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency, misleading fans and followers.
Stellar Blade has been a massive success since its launch, receiving accolades for its engaging gameplay and stunning visuals. In its first month alone, the game sold over one million copies, and by last month, sales had reached three million units.
Unfortunately, the rise of cryptocurrency scams has made such hacks increasingly common. Content creators, including major influencers like Kai Cenat, have faced similar breaches, as scammers exploit their popularity for illicit gains.
Even established companies like Viz Media have not been spared, experiencing similar security violations earlier this year. Now, Shift Up joins the list of those affected by cybercriminals.
Amid this turmoil, Shift Up has released a new update for Stellar Blade on PC and PS5, providing players with complimentary in-game items. However, the compromised Twitter account has been actively promoting a fake “Stellar Blade Coin,” using official game imagery to lend credibility to the scam.
The hackers also disabled comments on their posts, likely to prevent users from alerting others to the deception. Though the scam suggested in-game rewards, many fans recognized the signs of a hack.
The situation prompted a response from the game’s director, Hyung-Tae Kim, who urged fans to avoid engaging with any links shared by the hacked account. Kim assured players that the posts were unauthorized and that the team was actively working to recover their account.
Despite these challenges, Stellar Blade has enjoyed significant achievements, including a successful PC release and speculation about a possible Switch 2 version. Fans remain hopeful that the Twitter account will be restored soon to protect them from potential scams.
