Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Receives Exciting Update: June 2025 Content Rollout Announced!

Nintendo has rolled out a minor update, Version 13.0.4, for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in June 2025. This fighting game, created by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd., allows players to engage in battles with a diverse lineup of characters from the Nintendo universe, such as Link and Pikachu, as well as iconic third-party characters from franchises like Final Fantasy.

As a testament to its popularity, especially in Japan, the creator of Super Smash Bros. was recently honored with an award by the Japanese government, recognizing his significant contribution to video game development. Since its inception in 1999, the series has introduced five installments, including Melee, Brawl, and versions available for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. On June 24, Nintendo confirmed the deployment of the Version 13.0.4 update, mentioned on their support page.

This update follows a commitment to resolve a game-breaking bug affecting Mii Fighters in the Switch 2 iteration of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The patch primarily addressed issues with Mii Fighters’ thumbnails and also provided fixes in the Nintendo Switch 2 system version 20.1.5 that was released earlier on June 18, 2025.

The last update prior to this was in October 2024, leading fans to speculate that a larger update may not be forthcoming anytime soon. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, like other notable games such as Resident Evil 4 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, imposes challenges on players who excel.

Despite this, the dedicated fanbase appreciates the ongoing technical support. Discussions among fans hint at the potential direction for the series’ next installment, with some suggesting a return to focusing solely on Nintendo characters. At the beginning of 2025, Nintendo updated its list of best-selling games, maintaining the same rankings as before.

The top title has achieved impressive sales of 67.35 million units, alongside other popular titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Fans are optimistic that Super Mario Party Jamboree will also rise in ranks. The patch notes for Version 13.0.4 highlight fixes made to Mii Fighter thumbnail generation, while online match issues, particularly between Nintendo Switch 2 and original Switch players, were addressed in the earlier system update.
