GameStop’s Actions Could Impact Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-orders Negatively

Some GameStop customers are facing disappointment after receiving damaged units of the newly released Nintendo Switch 2, which launched on June 5. Reports indicate that the issues stem from pre-order receipts being stapled to the console’s box, resulting in damage to the screen. A Twitter user, Wario64, shared images of a damaged screen, revealing that the staple had pierced the box, causing the issue. Other customers, such as Oadhan and Pozzo4, shared similar experiences on social media and Reddit, expressing frustration over the situation.

In addition to the damaged units, those eager to play on the Nintendo Switch 2 will need to download a day-one patch before accessing their games. Nintendo confirmed that the patch is necessary for gameplay, as the console’s ability to play titles is locked until the update is completed. This precaution seems to be aimed at preventing leaked gameplay footage from early users. Compounding the frustrations, some customers have reported that GameStop has been selling custom Nintendo Switch 2 bundles.

Gamers noted that, aside from the official bundle that includes a copy of Mario Kart World, they were being offered additional items, such as pre-orders for Donkey Kong Bananza and screen protectors. GameStop is currently investigating these custom bundle claims and has urged customers to contact them directly on Twitter if they experienced similar issues. Despite these unfortunate incidents, many fans are enjoying their experience with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, for those affected by the damage and packaging issues, the excitement of the console’s release is overshadowed by stress and uncertainty about obtaining replacements.
